Many people have asked me lately if I’m still in the business of taking photos. My short answer is “Absolutely!” However, there have been some changes to my business. I’ll explain.
Many of you know that I had a photography studio with several rooms at the Dils Center for a year and-a-half or so. I still have a studio, but my wedding chapel has replaced the boudoir bed and backdrops. Now my room is full of chairs and flowers and everything “wedding.”
However, I’m not finished with photography.
I decided after a very busy fall and winter season in 2018 to take a step back and to reassess how I wanted to manage my business. I was so busy that I had no time for family or friends. I was burned out, exhausted, and I needed some rest.
You see, I am a business owner and an independent contractor. I simultaneously work in five industries: photography, wedding services, writing/editing, marketing, and teaching English as a second language. I’m busy. I’m tired. I had to redistribute my work schedule.
Mornings I teach children in China to speak English. I get up at the crack of dark because there is a 12-hour time difference this time of year. I also officiate weddings each week, which often leads to taking photos of newly-married couples. My writing business used to be a full-time venture, but I’ve scaled back to an occasional project. This week, I have my hands full because I have projects in all five industries.
I’m not complaining. I’m simply explaining. Deb Lorentz Photography is still open; however, I’ve decided to host photo “events” on a quarterly basis. I’m still available as a photographer for hire. I’m just being more selective in the projects I choose. If someone calls me for a project that I am unable to complete due to my schedule, I’ll gladly refer that individual to a local photographer I know and trust to do a good job.
Yes, I’m still here. I’m planning some beauty photography events in the near future — for Christmas: retro pin-up sessions for the ladies. I’ll likely add a pet portrait event again soon. I have open availability for senior portraits, maternity, and engagement sessions.
Reach out to me if you’d like to schedule a session. I love what I do and have no plans to go away any time soon. I’m just doing it a little differently.
